"Jerry Day is a civic and cultural event
that celebrates one of the greatest rock guitarists of all
time and San Francisco native son - Jerry Garcia. This
event captures the true spirit of Jerry Garcia as we
celebrate his legacy, the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, and
recognize his Excelsior roots. By uniting the diverse
communities of San Francisco through Jerry's music, we
are creating something extraordinary for Jerry's
childhood neighborhood - the Excelsior District, McLaren
Park, and the City and County of San Francisco."
"Happy Jerry Day to all!" - San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom

About this year's performers . . .
Melvin Seals and JGB [Website]
Melvin Seals who had worked with Jerry for fifteen years formed JGB one year after JERRY GARCIA’S death on August 9, 1995. After touring America steadily from late 1996 through 1997, JGB released a live CD, “Welcome To Our World,” in February, 1998 on The House Of Blues Records label touring extensively ever since in keeping the music alive, as Keepers Of The Flame.
“I was standing behind this guy on the stage. He was the second keyboard player in Elvin’s band. This big guy, he was just playing a Fender Rhodes. But he was playing so tasty; I’m just standing behind him. It’s a pretty thick band, so figuring out just how to get in there was, I thought, the work of a good musician. He was just playing the tastiest little stuff. I thought, ‘this guy is just too much!’ I asked him what his name was. He said, ‘Melvin Seals’.” Jerry Garcia, on meeting Melvin Seals

Check Engine Light
Call it what you will: “the old folks” from the Neighborhood, from the “Family”, or even just Geezer Rock. We’re just a group of old guys who get together to entertain our friends with music. We play some old familiar songs, some not so old: some original, some original takes on classics. Some of our songs are lost in space and time just like us.
